The secret to brighter under eyes.

The secret to brighter under eyes. - Beauty Full Time

2nd April | Beauty | Posted by Megan Bromley

We are going to be talking about skincare here, however, there are some things you can make sure you are doing in your lifestyle to increase your results.

I am sure you are doing these as best you can, this is just a gentle reminder. Sleep is so important, good quality sleep and enough of it can really help reduce dark circles. Also water consumption. Consistently drinking plenty of water helps reduce dark circles and puffiness by flushing out toxins and reducing the salt content in that area.

Sun Protection Factor (SPF).

If you are able to reduce or stop exposing your skin to the sun, this will really help with your overall skin condition as well as your dark circles. Sunlight breaks down Collagen and causes pigmentation. Have you noticed any darker, patchy areas on your face (usually around the top of your forehead)? Or dark spots forming in other places on the face, usually the cheeks? This is a result of over exposure to the sun. Wear an SPF on your face every day, even under makeup. One of my favourite products to use is Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream SPF30, It's a brilliant anti-ageing day cream combined with a good quality SPF.

Eye Cream

Using an eye cream consistently (am & pm) will help with dark circles and genereally brightening the eye area. Ideally one that contains Hyaluronic Acid and / or Peptides, Vitamin E or Antioxidants (not every eye cream will have all). Eye creams with brightening pigments are brilliant for reflecting light away from your dark circles and brightening the eyes one of my personal favourites is Decleor Jasmin Eye Cream or Ren Brightening Dark Circle Eye Cream. Always apply your eye cream using your ring finger, it has a lighter touch, and apply around the Orbital bone rather than loading it right underneath the eye, this can result in increased puffiness.

Self Tan

Dark circles can look so much more pronounced on fairer skin tones. Personally, I find that when my face has a tan (fake tan) I feel much better im general and my dark circles show up less! It is more beneficial to have a tan on your face from self tan rather than from the sun, as the skin on your face is more delicate and thinner than the skin on your body and will therefore damage more easily. I usually apply a gradual tan over night for a more natural finish. The Decleor Gradual Glow Lotion is brilliant as it is a face and body product that you can use to achieve your desired shade by applying as often as you need.

Makeup

You can use a colour corrector to balance out the Blue/ Purple tones of under eye circles. An Orangey/ Red colour is best, these MUA Colour Corrector kits are really helpful with all kinds of colour correction.  Then apply your normal concealer on top, this will brighten and lighten. It is usually better to use a liquid/creamy concealer around the eye area (not a stick), as it is easier to blend and will be less likely to sit in any fine lines. I always apply my eye cream first to hydrate the area. Also if you use a concealer that is a couple of shades lighter than your foundation, it works better to disguise darkness in the eye area. Using a concealer that is too dark won't help with your dark circles.

I hope this has set you on your way to brighter under eyes! Make sure to follow us on Instagram for all of our latest skincare tips and videos @beautyfulltimemarlborough.
