There are so many fragrances to choose from now, the decision can seem overwhelming. You can usually pin point what you are going to like quite easily by looking at your existing, or previous fragrances and looking at the notes they contain. People tend to stick to certain types of fragrance, making it easier to narrow down the choice.
You can look at the Fragrance Wheel created by Michael Edwards. It makes the different notes a little clearer and categorises fragrances into groups depending on how they smell.
When trying new fragrances it is always best practice to try them on your skin and let them settle before making your final decision. We also like to have some Coffee beans to smell inbetween fragrances to reduce nasal fatigue, smelling Coffee between fragrances helps you to distinguish one fragrance from the next.
Fragrances are available in different concentrations which affects the longevity and price. Parfum is the highest concentration of fragrance and Eau Fraiche/ Eau de Cologne are the weakest concentrations. What you choose depends on how long you want the fragrance to last, how much you want to spend (the higher the concentration, the higher the price), as well as what concentrations the fragrances you like are available in. The most common concentrations are Eau de Toilette and Eau de Parfum. See our Fragrance Strengths Infographic below.
A lot more to consider than you might think when looking for a new fragrance. It is always good to do your research prior to purchasing to ensure you end up with something you love.
